UX/UI Design

Animelon

I created this website with my UX/UI group member. It’s a redesign of Animelon, an outdated site that helps users learn Japanese by watching anime.

Early Brainstorming Ideas

We developed a sitemap using Miro and researched five different anime websites for inspiration, focusing on effective design elements. Additionally, we created two moodboards, one for dark mode and one for light mode, to highlight the website's theme.

Interview & Design process

We interviewed our classmates and received suggestions and feedback, including the idea of adding a reward system. This would encourage users to return and give them more purpose in using the site to learn Japanese. Therefore, we decided that users will earn 'melon points' by completing quizzes after watching videos, which can be redeemed for Animelon logo clothing.

Style Guide

We created a simple style guide before starting the prototyping process to ensure we had a clear vision of the website's appearance. This guide includes typography, color palettes, button styles, and layout principles, providing a consistent design framework. Having this in place streamlined the design process and ensured a cohesive look and feel across all pages.

RiddleRush

I created a riddle game where all content including images, text, and voice is AI-generated. I chose this approach to explore the growing capabilities of AI, which now enables the creation of diverse content. By integrating AI, I aimed to experiment with its potential in a creative context. The project focused primarily on UI design, emphasizing user interaction and experience through a simple, engaging riddle game.

Brooklyn College App

I worked on redesigning the BC App because we use it every day just for ID, but it’s not fun or engaging. The app’s design is also outdated. This project focused mainly on improving the user experience.

Design brief

Design an app with excellent UX and UI, ensuring legibility and usability for all users. Incorporate features from various apps and websites, and facilitate connections between users, their schools, and each other, while addressing user needs.

Research

We conducted both secondary and primary research. For secondary research, we read two articles discussing other schools’ apps. From this, I learned about app development, essential features, survey methodologies, and potential challenges. For primary research, I interviewed and observed three different students using their school’s apps, gaining firsthand insights into user experiences.

Final takeaway

I’ve focused on user experience and usability, ensuring legibility and easy thumb access by placing key features at the bottom. Drawing inspiration from KCC, NYIT, and UB, I included features like dining, athletics, library, feedback, job opportunities, and settings. From apps like Navigate, CUNYFirst, and Blackboard, I added study buddy/forum, financial aid, and services. These features improve UX and give users more purpose beyond ID check-ins, helping them connect with the school and each other. The app also offers language options for non-English speakers and is accessible to non-students.

Fan Page

I created a fan page about LeBron because he’s the person who got me into watching the NBA. After watching his documentary, I became really intrigued. Since LeBron currently plays for the Lakers, the fan page’s main theme uses yellow and purple. I aimed to showcase how great he is as he continues to set new records and build his legacy. This project focused on UI design.
